In 2006 the country's annual construction output grew 5.1 percent, driven mainly by increasing residential construction, including private and public housing. Social programs for new home buyers and easier access to lower cost mortgages drove the number of housing starts to over 430,000 for the year.

For example, in the Ile-de-France area of the country, the company's transport of materials by waterway offers a rational, economic, and ecological alternative to road transport. Each river convoy carrying 5,000 tons of materials means 220 fewer truck journeys on French roads; it also consumes three times less energy than train transport and five times less energy than truck transport.
