True to our longstanding commitment to society, we work to improve the well-being of communities around the world through our educational, cultural, infrastructure, and community-development initiatives. We aim to balance our responsibilities to different stakeholder groups by developing programs that help meet the needs of our communities while promoting the use of our cement and other products.

We have partnered with federal, state, and local governments to ensure that Mexico's poorest residents have a concrete floor to stand on. Through the "Piso Firme" program, we have helped almost 200,000 disadvantaged families by replacing their dirt floors with our unique antibacterial concrete, an ideal way to preserve a clean and healthy environment. And we have started a similar initiative in Colombia.
We've also helped to make the dream of home ownership a reality for more than 120,000 Mexican families. Our "Patrimonio Hoy" program organizes low-income families into self-financing cells that facilitate and expedite the typical home-building process. We not only provide them with the products they need, but also we offer them technical assistance-including an architect who helps design their house with an eye to future growth-so they can optimize space and reduce waste.
Through our Construmex program, Mexicans living in the United States can transfer money home for their families' construction needs. For only a dollar each, our clients can transfer orders directly through our network of more than 20,000 distributors across Mexico, who then deliver the building materials to our clients' designated recipients.
Our corporate giving extends throughout CEMEX's global organization. Our actions range from scholarships for children in Costa Rica to medical and dental care for our communities in the Philippines to continued support of non-profit centers for disabled children in Mexico and Venezuela.
